It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan David Morton, who left us on February 27, 2025. A native of Louisiana, Alan’s family moved to Southern California where he resided for most of his life and is where he met his wife Stephanie. The couple recently relocated to Indiana. He was a devoted husband to Stephanie Derick, whom he loved deeply. Alan embraced her children, Nick and Jessica, as his own with warmth and generosity that knew no bounds. Stephanie’s family also held a special place in Alan’s heart, and he shared a deep bond with his father-in-law, Gary Takacs.
The cherished baby son of Brownie and Thomas, Alan was the youngest of six siblings: Susan (Roger) Greenwood, Sally (Duane) Hoffman, Robert (Deborah) Morton, Tamara (Allen) Gilson, and Janice (Aaron) Morton. Early on, the family moved to Denver where Alan and his siblings enjoyed a childhood of playing with dogs, riding bikes, running through sprinklers, and building snowmen. As time passed the family moved to California where Alan graduated from Vista High School. He later attended both the University of Miami and San Diego State University, but he was always drawn to cars and trucks and this became his life’s work. He will always be our little brother.
Alan’s love for others was felt by all who knew him. He had a rare ability to see the best in people and was always patient, kind, and eager to include everyone, especially those feeling alone or down. His family and friends will miss his gentle spirit and the way he made everyone feel valued. Alan will also be deeply missed by the many animals he cared for in the woods behind his home. The squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs, and stray kitties all loved Alan (and his peanut butter sandwiches) for his generosity, kindness, and gentle spirit. He was a creative soul who loved sewing purses and handbags, a skill he learned from his mother.
An avid soccer fan, Alan’s heart belonged to the English Premier League. His excitement for the game was infectious, and he loved sharing his knowledge of soccer with those around him. Whether it was discussing tactics, celebrating a big win, or just enjoying the sport’s energy, soccer brought him great joy.
Alan’s life was defined by his deep love for his family, his generosity, and his ability to bring joy to everyone he met. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. He was an amazing husband, a loyal friend, and a truly good person whose light will continue to shine.
A Celebration of life will take place at a later date.
