Albion “Al” Bindley IV, age 85 of Mishawaka, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Elkhart, IN. Al was born on June 2, 1939, in Mercer, PA, to the late Rosalie and Albion Bindley III.
Al graduated from Penn State University with a major in physics. Al was a gymnast during his college time. He joined the Navy and served at White Sands Missile Range. Al moved from Ohio to the South Bend area in 1976 to work in the Marketing Department at Wheel Horse Products. In 1992, he met and later married Ursula Macioch. In 1984 he began work at, and later retired from, E F Hutton & Company as a financial consultant.
Al was an outstanding chef and consummate host. He was equally passionate about sports. NASCAR, Notre Dame, Penn State, the Olympics and PGA golf were among his favorites. He attended many football games including the infamous Penn State vs. Notre Dame “snowbowl”.
During his retirement, Al enjoyed traveling the world with Ursula. They visited Europe, including her homeland of Poland, Africa and Central/South America.
Closer to home, they enjoyed boating and the RV lifestyle, traveled the Alaska Highway, and took advantage of every opportunity to gather with friends and family. Snowbirds, Al and Ursula wintered in Pompano Beach, FL.
Al was a proud father and devoted husband and will be missed by his family. He is survived by children Melanie (Matt) Bindley-Baggett, Celeste (David) Horein, and Albion Bindley V and stepdaughter Margaret (Tom) Andersson; 10 grandchildren Jack, Josie, Ava, Hope, Tyler, Travis, Donald, Jesse, Matthew, and Jason; and eight great-grandchildren Lincoln, Alaina, Freya, Hartleigh, Mila, Ember, Torian and Bronah.
Al was preceded in death by his wife Ursula, one daughter, Jennifer Bindley, and one brother, Henry Wieand.
Friends may visit from 2-4pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. A celebration of life will follow at 4pm. Al will be laid to rest at Allegheny Cemetery near Pittsburgh PA in the Bindley family mausoleum. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 19.
