Anthony Norborg Obituary

Anthony (“Tony”) Charles Norborg passed away on May 17, 2025, at Primrose Retirement Community of Mishawaka, IN, after a long illness. Tony was born on Aug. 8, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York to Norwegian immigrant parents: the late Erna (Endresen) Norborg and Rev. Christopher Sverre Norborg. Erna had worked for and befriended the actress Mary Pickford, who served as Tony’s godmother.

On May 23, 1959, Tony married a Norwegian immigrant, Berit Tveter, at the Norwegian Memorial Lutheran Church (Minnekirken) in Chicago, IL, with Anthony’s father presiding. He served in the navy and worked for many years at the former Fisher Scientific International, Inc. as a traveling salesman, winning awards and making lifelong friends of some of his clients and colleagues.

Tony liked nature and went on many camping adventures with his wife and three children in their pop-up camper. In retirement, he raised two rescue dogs, walked dogs for the Humane Society, and volunteered as a reading tutor for adults and computer literacy tutor for seniors. He also traveled extensively with his wife to Norway, Alaska, Iceland, New Mexico, and other locations. He enjoyed listening to jazz, building things, watching the wildlife in their backyard, and visiting with his children and grandchildren.

Following the death of his wife in 2023, Tony moved to Primrose Retirement Community, where he made many friends. An especially dear Primrose friend, Patricia Clevenger, spent much time with Tony and looked out for him during his struggles with Parkinson’s, a disease her husband had also suffered from. Patricia said, “Tony was a kind, caring, and compassionate man. We had both suffered recent losses and helped each other through some difficult times. He was a true gentleman.”

Tony will be deeply missed by his children, Linda Kusz, Kari (Campbell) Carter, and Craig Norborg; his five grandchildren, Christopher (Kathy) Polonka, Daniel (Emily McCoy) Polonka, Daniel (Kendra) Carter, Emmaline Carter, and Maya Carter; his two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Dr. Christopher Sverre Norborg II.

A celebration of life is being planned for the day following Tony’s 90th birthday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Primrose Retirement Community of Mishawaka.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of Tony’s favorite charities: The Humane Society of St. Joseph County or Pet Refuge of South Bend, IN.
