Arthur "AJ" Procaccino Obituary

Arthur J. “AJ” Procaccino, born May 31, 1949, in Mishawaka, Indiana, was the son of Joseph and Anna Mae Procaccino, both whom preceded him in death.

Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Army from June 1969 to June 1975. Over the course of his military service, Arthur earned numerous medals and commendations, a rare distinction that spoke to his valor, commitment, and sacrifice. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, two Overseas Service Bars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, the Combat Infantryman Badge (First Award), Sharpshooter Badge (M-16), the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Good Conduct Medal (First Award).

AJ attended Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne, IN, where he was a linebacker on the football team. Later he moved back to the South Bend/Mishawaka, area.   He cultivated many lifelong friendships and even played drums in a band.  He was known to throw the best and biggest parties in his younger years. Glen & Cindy, Gerry and Tommy will definitely feel his loss especially when out on the water.

On July 3, 1987, he married Donna Ferrell, and together they shared 26 years of marriage before her passing in 2013.

Following his military service, AJ worked as a heavy equipment operator with Local 150 of the Midwest Operating Engineers Union.

AJ treasured his children, Patricia (Clinton) Ottman and Anthony Procaccino. He leaves behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren and cherished bonus children from previous marriages.

He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, James Procaccino as well as one of his best friends, Richard “Dicky” Day.

AJ’s greatest passion was being on the lake or Pigeon River, fishing.  He also enjoyed hunting and was an avid Notre Dame football fan, and faithfully cheered for the Chicago Bears. He especially loved watching old football games and classic westerns.
