Beverly Jane Crandell of Mishawaka, IN, born August 18, 1933 in Bloomingdale, IN made her final life transition on Wednesday, November 20th, 2022 while under the care of hospice at Bell Tower Nursing Home. Bev was the daughter of Mary Louise and Peter Ott. Charles Redman adopted her at age 2. Bev attended school in Lakeville, IN where even to this year she would proudly attend class reunions. Bev worked at Uniroyal in Mishawaka for 16 years then at RACO in South Bend for another 29 years. She was a dedicated, hardworking employee, and a friend to all. Bev drove a fork lift and was Union Steward. Once retired, she continued this work ethic as a domestic worker and by helping her many friends. She was a member of the Moose Lodge since 1958.
Bev navigated three short marriages in her life, to Gilbert Wayne Thomas, Don Skiles, and Jack Crandell. Bev dedicated herself to helping others while proudly supporting herself with life on her own. This may be why she never met a stranger. She saw the best in people. Her life was not easy, but she never complained. For the past few years Bev lived mostly in a wheelchair in assisted living communities, having lost one leg. She has been a survivor, a warrior, and an inspiration throughout her life. Her mind was strong and clear until the end. She probably still has your phone number in her head! Bev will be remembered fondly and lovingly for her love of the Cubs, Notre Dame, her love of animals, her strength, her smile, and her contagious positive attitude. May she and all who knew her find peace and comfort.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 23, from 4:00 – 5:30 pm in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka. Funeral Service will begin at 5:30 pm with Pastor Ken Fetter officiating. Private burial will take place on Friday in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
