Bloyd Richard Matson, known affectionately as Rich, departed this life on February 15, 2025, in his hometown of Mishawaka, IN. Born on September 13, 1956, to Ellen (Matson) Emerick, Rich embodied the spirit of service and commitment throughout his life, proudly serving as a Marine, which deeply influenced his character.
Rich's devotion to his family was unwavering. He shared a life full of love with his late wife, Kathy (Veal) Matson, who passed before him in 2016 after 36 years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons, Michael Matson, and Christopher Matson, and rejoiced in the blessings of his daughter in law Elizabeth, and four grandchildren, Gabriella Matson, Isabella Schrum, Waldemar Matson, and Skylar Matson.
Rich was an avid fisherman whose love for the water and the thrill of the catch never waned. Rich loved spending summers at the Yogi Bear Campgrounds, where he found peace among his friends and family. The memories he made there are ones that will forever remain a part of his legacy.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street. Military rights will be performed in the Home at 3:00 PM. The family would like to request that anyone that attends the visitation and the Military Honors dress casually and wear a Hawaiian shirt.
In lieu of flowers that family would like donations to be made to Folds of Honor.
