Charles “Chuck” Van De Wielle, 77 years old, passed away the morning of Saturday, June 29, 2024, in South Bend, Indiana. He was born on November 15, 1946, in Mishawaka to the late Albert and Martha Van De Wielle. On June 7, 1969, he was united in marriage to Sheila (Piechoski) Van De Wielle.
Chuck is survived by his wife as well as his children, Sherry (Kris) Kruger and Chuck Van De Wielle, Jr.; grandchildren Sky Kruger and Kylie Kruger; and sister Sue Breckner.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Jerry Van De Wielle.
Chuck served in the Army during Vietnam. He went on to work at Dodge, and also as a surveyor at Lang & Feeney before his retirement. Growing up, he loved fishing and hunting. He was a great cook and enjoyed spending time working in his yard. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and wrestling. He loved going for drives in his Corvette around town and through Potato Creek.
Chuck was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be on Friday, July 5 from 5 to 7 p.m., funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th St, Mishawaka, IN 46544. The family requests that those who attend honor Chuck by wearing sports merchandise and/or the color purple.
