Cynthia M. (Yocum) Pankiw passed away suddenly on September 16, 2022. Cynthia was born to the late James F. and Larraine M. (O’Meara) Yocum on April 22, 1947, in South Bend, IN. On August 9, 1969, in Christ the King Catholic Church South Bend, Cynthia married Henry Pankiw who preceded her in death on July 12, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Patrick and Thomas Yocum.
Cynthia is survived by her children, Valerie (Scott) Berry, Rebecca (Jeff) Mitchell, and Daniel (Alisha) Pankiw; grandchildren, Alyssa Berry, Amanda Berry, Elaine Pankiw, Charles Pankiw, Julia Mitchell, Kaylin Pankiw, Allison Mitchell, Evan Pankiw and Claire Pankiw; sisters, Christine (Michael) Vandenburg, and Melanie (Victor) Sulok; sisters-in-law, Pam Yocum, Mary Yocum, and Christine (Andrew) Lustofin; and brother-in-law, Ted (Arvada) Pankiw.
Cynthia worked as a registered nurse for many years prior to her retirement. She became very active in the Christ Child Society spending much of her free time helping the children in the Michiana area. Cynthia was a long time and devoted member of St. Bavo Catholic Church.
Friends may visit with Cynthia’s family on Wed September 21 from 6-8pm at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 pm on Thurs September 22 at St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W 7th St, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.
