Cynthia Diana Shaffer, 64, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in her home in South Bend, Indiana. Cynthia was born on October 30, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Eugene Shaffer and Loeria (House) Shaffer.
Cynthia leaves behind her cherished daughter, Audrey Acosta, who is married to Brian Riggs, and her beloved grandson, Aries Riggs. Her presence will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to guide and uplift them as they hold onto the precious memories they crafted together.
Cynthia was a devoted grandmother and mom. She never stopped learning or being curious about the world. She was an avid genealogy researcher, cook, gardener, and great lover of nature. Watching murder mysteries, quirky TV shows, and movies made the world brighter through her struggles with her health. She refused to be defined and always chose her own path, even when it was difficult. Her memory is defined by the love and support she gave to those around her.
In her honor, please visit any park. Feel the peace and serenity that she found in visiting her favorite sycamore tree in Ox Bow Park, identifying birds at Pokagon State Park, or listening to the waves at the Indiana Dunes. Create beautiful memories in nature as she did in life.
Per Cynthia’s wishes there will be no formal service held at this time. Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle the final arrangements.
