David Smith Obituary

David Allen Smith, 86, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021. David was born in South Bend, IN on August 30, 1935, to the late Herman and Mary (Settle) Smith.  He is survived by his wife, Catherine Smith (Van Driessche), whom he married on November 27, 1958, in St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN. He is also survived by his children, Laura (Gary) Maynard, Brian (Lynda) Smith, and Kevin Smith; grandchildren, Paige Downhour, Aron (Brittany) Condon, Tawny (Roy) Dowdy, and Savana Smith; great grandchildren Braeden Downhour, and Mary Rose Smith; and a sister, Linda Peters.  David is preceded in death by his brothers, Ted Smith and Tom Smith; and sister Janice Truex.

David proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Through the VA he graduated with a Master’s degree in Horology from Bradley University in Peoria, IL.  He was a Master Watchmaker and Locksmith.  He owned Smiths Jewelry in South Bend during the early 60's while working for Sears & Roebuck for 20+ years.  His favorite sports were Judo instructor at the YMCA, ski instructor at Swiss Valley, MI and Snowmass Mountain, CO, golfing, fishing, and loving his family as the best husband and father ever.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.  Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.
