Dean Wesley Johnson, 86, went home to be with Our Lord on Sunday morning, November 20, 2022, after a brief illness.
Dean was born on June 7, 1936, in Mishawaka, Indiana to Erhard and Inez Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death. On October 10, 1959, he married the love of his life, Ann Mary Messana at St Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka.
Dean is survived by his wife and their children: Michael Johnson, Laurie Dutrieux-Johnson, Craig (Jamie) Johnson, and Deana (Mark) Hummel, along with the joys of his life, his nine grandchildren: Nicholas, Megan, Trevor (Amy), Rachel, Maura, and Sydney Johnson; Alyssa, Matthew (McKenzie) Hummel and McKenna (Jackson) Day. Dean was promoted from Papa to Great Papa this summer with his first great-grandson, Jax Day.
Mr. Johnson is also survived by his sister, Alta (Johnson) Holland of Richardson, Texas, along with many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Lowell Johnson and two sisters, Ellen (Johnson) Cocanower and Darlene (Johnson) Zook also preceded him in death.
After graduating from Mishawaka High School, Dean began employment at Burcliff Industries while continuing his education with an associates degree from Acme Tool & Die and completed engineering coursework at both Indiana University at South Bend and Southwestern Michigan College. In 1981, he started An-Mar Wiring Systems, Inc., a business his sons continue today.
Dean was a member of the Mishawaka Lions Club, a former Penn Harris Madison School Board member, as well as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He also served in the National Guard.
Visitation will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 9:00 am with a funeral mass following at 10:30 am. Dean will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. To view the livestream, visit StPius.net or www.facebook.com/StPiusGranger.
