Donald Schroeder Obituary

Donald “Don” Schroeder, 92, was born March 30, 1933, in Ida County, Iowa, to the late Paul Schroeder and Mary Louise (Fineran) Schroeder. Don passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025 in Elkhart, Indiana.

Don graduated from Freeborn High School in Freeborn, Minnesota.  He went on to attend Winona State College, in Winona, Minnesota, and graduated with a Bachelors degree in business.  On January 8, 1955 he married Lorraine T. Kalis, a newly graduated nurse, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, Minnesota. They began their married life in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Over the years they lived in Minnesota, Michigan and Indiana and grew their family to six children.

Don is survived by his wife Lorraine and children, Craig (Marlene) Schroeder, Therese (Norbert) Reis, Mark (Valerie) Schroeder, Patricia (Larry) Chapman, Nancy Seidler, and Susan (Bob) Meacham, 12 cherished grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; each of whom will carry forward the memory of his kind heart and the deep love he had for his family. He is predeceased by his parents Paul and Mary Louise and his brother Robert Schroeder.

Don was well known for his love of the game of golf, both playing and watching. He followed Notre Dame Women’s Basketball and was a lifelong fan of the Minnesota Vikings Football team. He had a wonderful sense of humor.  He loved food!!!  “Ooh Doggies!” was a phase he used when anticipating a good meal. “Hup ho!” was also a favorite expression he used when he was trying to move his kids out the door. His frugality was legendary and he had the ability to always find the lowest priced gasoline. His special skills included loading the dishwasher for maximum efficiency and scooping ice cream for family get-togethers. He loved to dance, which was how he met Lorraine. He was an active and devout Catholic attending Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Indiana. He was a dedicated accountant/CPA, retiring from Mossberg, Inc. as the CFO. He was always a good neighbor whether while living in the Reverewood subdivision,  wintering in Sun City, Arizona or in Blair Hills, where he served on the HOA financial committee.

Don’s life was filled with generosity, joy, devotion to family and faith in God. Each moment of his life, he left a legacy of love and caring for everyone.
