Dorothy L. Boryc, 99, formerly of Mishawaka passed away on December 6, 2023 in Fort Myers, FL.  Dorothy was born in Chicago, IL to the late Robert Veronica (Jaska) Cacya on May 27, 1924.  She went on to marry the love of her life Irvin J. Boryc on October 22, 1949 in South Bend, IN.  He proceeded her death on August 31, 1996.  Dorothy was also preceded in death by her sisters, Antoinette Frizzell and Lucille Cacya, and her brothers, Eddy, Frank, Felix of Chicago, IL and Henry of Oahu, Hawaii.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Pamela Paulk; two grandchildren Nicole and Aaron; sister, Josephine (Fran) Iott.  She also is survived by many family members in California, Illinois, Michigan, and Hawaii.

In 1947, Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.  She was active in the Nursing Cadet Corps in WWII.  Working as a nurse for 50 years at St. Joseph Medical Center in South Bend, IN and Mishawaka, IN in surgery, obstetrics, Medical Review, Quality Assurance.  Dorothy was a nursing instructor at Holy Cross School of Nursing in South Bend, IN.  She also served as president of Ladies Auxillary at the V.F.W. and a member of St. Bavo’s Catholic Church.  She was also active in music, art, bowling, golf, and travel.

Dorothy loved life, her religion, activity, her pets, and especially involvement with her family.

A funeral Mass will be held in honor of Dorothy L. Boryc on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 10:00 am in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th St., Mishawaka, IN 46544.  She would have been 100 years old on May 27, 2024.  Burial will be following the mass at Chapel Hill Gardens in Osceola, IN.  As she wished, Dorothy will be placed adjacent to her husband Irvin.
