Dorothy Deschamphelaere Obituary

Dorothy P. Deschamphelaere, 91, of Mishawaka passed away on January 17, 2025. Dorothy was born to the late Peter and Lila (Smith) Farraci on February 11, 1933, in Mishawaka, IN. After graduating from Mishawaka High School Dorothy went on to marry Alphons Deschamphelaere in St. Joseph Catholic Parish of Mishawaka.

She suffered through the two biggest losses in her life with grace and dignity.  Her husband died too soon in life almost 40 years ago as the result of a car accident and her oldest son, Matthew over 10 years ago when he died suddenly.

Dorothy is survived by her children, David (Melanie) Deschamphelaere and Lorraine (Kevin) Carner; grandchildren, Miranda (Tom) Van Nevel, Kristofer Deschamphelaere and Megan (Jeramie) Davis as well as her great grandchildren, Alexandra Van Nevel, Olivia Van Nevel, and Charlotte Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alphons and her son, Matthew Deschamphelaere.

Dorothy was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church. She liked to golf and bowl and for many years she was employed at Regal Lanes to babysit for the children of the morning women's leagues. She had fun getting to know the children.  Dorothy also enjoyed spending summers at the family lake cottage on Shavehead Lake and traveling with her family to various destinations on vacation, her favorite being Hawaii.

A Funeral Mass will be held on January 27, 2025, at 10:00 am, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W 7th St, Mishawaka, IN 46544. A private burial will be held at a later date.
