Elaine Wisner, a beacon of warmth and compassion, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at her home in South Bend, Indiana. Born on July 30, 1942, in South Bend, she was the cherished daughter of the late Maurice A Leliaert and Lucy L (Stevens) Leliaert. Elaine's nurturing spirit was a gift to all who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt by her loving family and the community she so tenderly served.
In September of 1976, Elaine married the love of her life, Robert Wisner who preceded her in death. Elaine's legacy is carried on by her devoted children, Leanne (Chris) Murray, Mandy Grzeskowiak, and Kristin (Marc) Mersich; her grandchildren, Kathleen (Steven) Null, Reid Murray, Connor (Jordan Burger) Knox, and Matthew Hostetler, were the light of her life, and she took immense joy in their every accomplishment and adventure. Elaine also welcomed with great pride her great-granddaughter, Taylor Hostetler.She is also survived by her beloved brother, Fr. Richard Leliaert, whose presence in her life brought her great joy and spiritual strength.
A commendable lifelong nurse, Elaine earned her RN and dedicated her life to helping others. Her tireless dedication to others extended beyond her family, as she cared for countless individuals with the same love and attention, she gave her own. Elaine's involvement with St. Paul's Church further reflected her commitment to service and community.
Elaine's interests extended beyond her professional endeavors; she was the heart of her family, always bringing them together with her warmth and her infectious laughter. Elaine cherished the little moments in life. She loved going on road trips with her dear friends Jeannie Ross and Louise Meyer. She enjoyed the simple pleasures like sharing ice cream topped with Hershey's syrup, and spending quality time with friends and family who were drawn to her joyful and lively nature. Elaine truly lit up every room she entered and made the lives of those around her brighter with her energy and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to riles Children's Hospital, 705 Riley Hospital Dr, Indianapolis.
A Memorial Mass will be taking place Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W 7th St, Mishawaka. Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle the final arrangements. A private burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, South Bend.
