Farrell B. Holland, Sr., better known as “Junior” and/or “Papa”, 91, passed away very peacefully at his son’s home on Thursday, September 2, 2021. He did it his way, just like so many things in his life. The days leading up to his passing were surrounded by close family and friends, and his pride and joy Precious (his Chihuahua).
Farrell was born in Mishawaka, IN on July 15, 1930, to the late Seylis and Nora (Barley) Holland. On June 27, 1953, he married the love of his life, the former Patricia “Patsy” Ann Shafer who preceded him in death on March 6, 2018. Also preceding him in death is his daughter, Nora Jo Holland; siblings, Shari Myzsak and Dwight Holland; and grandchildren, Mitter Wood and Ethan Blaine. Surviving Farrell are his sons, Farrell (Debby) Holland Jr., Jeff (Vicky) Holland and Randy (Amy) Holland; 8 granddaughters, Augusta, Aubrey, Austynne, Sarah, Sydnee, Payton, Jordan and Mackenzie; 4 great-grandchildren, Berick, Uriah, Elijah and Samantha; sibling, Marsha Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.
Farrell served in the National Guard for over 10 years and retired after 43 years as a semi-truck driver for ABF. He was awarded “The Million Mile” award for driving all those miles accident free. For over 45 years Farrell was an usher for the University of Notre Dame.
Farrell demonstrated daily how a wonderful human being led a full and joyful life. He was a very hard and loyal worker; he was a committed and loving husband; he was a proud father; and a true friend to so many. He always had a welcoming smile on his face and a story to tell. His faith in God deepened as he grew older, and he really enjoyed his fellow parishioners at the South Side Church of God-and he especially enjoyed sermons by Pastor Mary.
Farrell loved to take long drives with Patsy with no particular destination in mind. They were inseparable and completely dedicated to each other for 64 years. They loved to host all of the holidays for their immediate and extended family, making sure that there was plenty of food and gifts for all. It was inspiring to watch them make it all come together with such precision and love.
Farrell was an amazing brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend with a huge heart, and a cheerful spirit. God speed Papa. You are so loved and missed already.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8th from 10 am-1 pm at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka with a Memorial Service to follow at 1 pm. Farrell will be laid to rest in Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.
