Father Barry C. England, 82, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, in his home.
Father England was born in White Plains, NY to William and Anne O’Keefe England on August 9, 1942, His father preceded him in death on May 3, 1979, and his mother of February 3, 2005.
Father England was a Catholic priest serving in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, he attended St. John the Baptist Grade School, Fort Wayne, IN, he studied Theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Norwood, Ohio, receiving a Bachelor of Philosophy and a Masters of Divinity Degree.
Father England was ordained on May 25, 1968, by Bishop Remeo Blanchette in Joliet, Illinois if the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus.
His first assignment was as an associate pastor of St. Mary Parish, Huntington, IN. He later served as an associate at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Fort Wayne, IN. He also served as pastor to the parishes of St. Joseph, Roanoke, IN and St. Catherine of Alexandria, Nix Settlement, Queen of Angels, Fort Wayne, IN, St. Anthony De Padua, South Bend and St. Bavo, Mishawaka, IN.
In addition to his ministry as a parish priest, he served on the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese, Chairman of the Priest’s Personnel Board, Judge in the Marriage Tribunal, and Diocesan DCCW Chaplain. While in the Fort Wayne Area he served on the Allen County United Way Allocations Committee and the Allen County United Way Board of Directors, the Bishop Dwenger High School Board of Education and Chaplain of Knights of Columbus 1878 in Mishawaka.
Father Barry was an avid golfer, a devoted fan and season ticket holder to the Notre Dame women’s basketball. He loved attending Notre Dame football games.
He is survived by two brothers, Joseph England, Hudson, Ohio, Peter (Alison) England, Beaufort, South Carolina and two sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Julie) Borschke, St. Augustine, Florida and Virginia England, Chicago, Illinois and his many nieces and nephews.
His last words to a family member the night before he died and the last words in many of his conversations were, “Go IRISH!!”
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 6 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a time of sharing and remembrance at 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary at 7 p.m., in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street Mishawaka IN 46544
Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Friday, March 7 in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka with Bishop Kevin Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN at 2:30 PM Graveside
