Frank was born on September 28, 1929, in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, the seventh of eleven children born to Nabor and Maria Guzman. His early years were spent in Nebraska, working on the family farm and going to school. He was the valedictorian of his high school and attended Creighton University, graduating in 1951. He continued his education receiving a Ph. D from the University of Notre Dame. He served in the Army with distinction, in the Korean War as a medic.
Frank enjoyed several professions over the course of his life, spending his final years as an educator in the Elkhart County School System. His efforts to help young people begin their educational journeys is the stuff of legends. Frank’s dedication was exemplary at Woodland Elementary, continuing his service well past his 95th birthday. He was dedicated to the honor of the blessed Virgin Mary and to his parish at St. Joseph’s in South Bend. He shared many happy times with his loving companion Rose Eslinger.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Joseph, Stanley, twins Salvatore and Helen, Manuella and Raymond. He is survived by his loving sister Elizabeth (Steve McCarthy).
He married the former Rita Mora, and had two children, Kathy (Tom Sciortino) and Juan (Vicki Guzman). They presented him with six grandchildren, Sean, Gina (Glasgow), Ryan, Kyle, Rose (Redig) Sciortino, and Cody Guzman. He is further survived by twelve great-grandchildren. His many nieces, nephews and cousins will miss his humor, sage advice, and dedication to family. His support of Norte Dame sports will be missed by all.
