Gary Fred

Gary Douglas Fred, age 66, of South Bend, passed away peacefully in his home, Monday March 30th, 2026. He was born in Niles, MI on September 18th, 1959, to Gail and Janet (nee-Young) Fred. 

Gary proudly retired from Inland Steel. He adored his mom, his daughter, being a PawPaw, Creed, and socializing with his close loved ones and friends. He was a passionate gardener. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, working on cars, westerns, music, and playing cards. He will be remembered for his quick wit and big personality.  

Gary is survived by his "one and only" daughter, Katie Fred; granddaughters, Isabella Harris and Olivia Elliott; brothers, Mike (Cindy), Gail, Tommy (Cindy); sisters, Theresa Bruens, Melinda Fred, and his father. He was preceded in death by his mother; uncle, Paul Young; aunt, Joanne Truax, and dog, Zoey. 

Friends may visit with the family from 4-6pm on April 30th in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A brief service will be held immediately following at 6pm in the funeral home.
