George E. Vernasco, 69, passed into the arms of His Savior on Friday February 21, 2025, in the comfort of His home, after an illness. George was born on November 14, 1955, to George N. and Marie E. Vernasco in Mishawaka, IN, and remained a resident for the entirety of His life. George attended Marian HS, and Mishawaka HS, graduating from Mishawaka HS. George worked for his Family’s business, Transmission Technicians, eventually co-owning it with His Brother until their retirement.
George loved entertaining friends and family in his backyard oasis. You often found him at the grill, or pool side, making sure everyone had what they needed, conversing with each and every person there. He was a friend to all. He was king of the corny joke, he loved a shot of tequila from time to time, a good burger, and sweet treats. He loved to mow, keeping a pristinely green and weed free lawn, sometimes to the annoyance of the neighbors. He loved having colorful flowers around the property, having a garden to share vegetables with family, friends, and neighbors, and you could often find him watering around the property in the warm weather. George was an avid golfer and fanatic about the sport. He enjoyed golfing with his dad for many years until his passing, and also with a host of numerous friends thereafter. George was a fan of Notre Dame Football; he loved to tailgate with Heather and their friends. He was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Bears. George enjoyed travel, trips to the beach, shopping at Meijer on Saturday mornings, and talking about the stock market with anyone who had an interest. He loved fast cars, motorcycles, and loved for the ones he owned to sparkle and shine. Mostly though, he loved and adored his Family, and for Him there really was no place like Home.
George is survived by his partner of 17 years and wife of 10 years, Heather C. Vernasco; 3 Daughters: Tara M. Rader of Mishawaka, Erica A. (Jafe) Pitcock of Carmel, IN, and Julia R. (Ryan) Houchins of St Cloud, Fla. His memory and legend will be cherished by his 7 Grandchildren: Ryan Rader, Leah Rader, Hanah Rader, Norah Rader, Emma Marcella, Zander Pitcock, and Piper Pitcock. One Brother David (Diane) Vernasco, one Sister Linda Verleye, niece Lisa (David) Worley, and 2 nephews David Vernasco, and Michael (Kaylee) Verleye. His furry guardian Pixie will also miss him always.
George was preceded in death by his parents that he adored, George N. Vernasco and Marie E. Vernasco, and his brother-in-law Gary Verleye. He was also preceded by his furry friends Sultan, Piper, and Lola who he missed and spoke of often.
George was truly beloved by Heather, His Girls, his Grandchildren, along with a treasure trove of the best friends a man could ask for. “Remember, No Man is a Failure who has Friends”. He truly did Lasso the Moon for his Loved ones. He will be mourned always, and never forgotten……” For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
