Gerald " Jerry" Neil Burks

     Gerald "Jerry" Neil Burks, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Elkhart, IN, at the age of 95. Born on September 4, 1930, in South Bend, IN, to Walter and Audrey Burks, Jerry lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a love for the simple joys in life. After bravely serving in the U.S. Army, Jerry returned to his hometown, where Jerry dedicated many years of service to Wheelabrator before his well-deserved retirement.

   Jerry was formerly married to Rita Martin Burks for 29 years . Jerry later married his wife, Nancy Germano Burks, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Audrey Burks; his sons, Guy and Donald; long time companion, Nancy Chipps and his siblings, Nora Davis, Vena Going, Ruby Richardson, Anita Hisaw, Ruth Starkweather, Clifford Burks, Paul Burks, Harold Burks, and Richard Burks.

     Jerry is survived by his children, Jerry (Cheryl) Burks and Robb Burks, six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Susie Heckman and Johnny (Faye) Burks and his first wife, Rita (Martin) Burks.

     Jerry's legacy continues through his family and friends who will carry forward his stories, his laughter, and his love for card games, especially Euchre. He enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors, whether it was a quiet day spent fishing or simply basking in the tranquility of nature.

     Friends may visit with the family from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday October 29th, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Donations in Jerry’s honor may be made to The Center for Hospice Care.
