Harriet Agnes Arnold Probst was born on August 6, 1924 to Laura Marie Landgraf Arnold and Harry A. Arnold in Mishawaka, Indiana. Harriet is survived by her daughter, Martha Jo Probst Moynahan, son in law Roger Moynahan and her beloved granddaughter, Emily Moynahan (David Bemenderfer) and her two great grandsons, Brady and Justin.
Harriet married Justin L. Probst “Judd,” on August 9, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 2008. Both Harriet and Justin were devoted to each other and had a zest for life. Family and friends were important to Judd and Harriet. They embraced each one as one of life’s treasures. They enjoyed life at Garver Lake, Madiera Beach, Florida and Mishawaka. Harriet was always ready to join in and loved to entertain, but you would find her quietly in the background. Harriet loved her dogs, cats and horses. She was an accomplished equestrian. Animals loved her. She could train an animal to do anything from pulling a dog cart, to taking a bow or smile and even trained cats to fetch.
She was a graduate of Mishawaka High School where she met Judd. She furthered her education by auditing business courses through Notre Dame. She was employed by First Bank and Trust (now 1st Source Bank) before retiring to raise her daughter, Martha. Later in life she went back to work as a teller for Valley American Bank. She never wanted to be left behind and found joy in any activity. Harriet brightened every time she was with her granddaughter, Emily. She helped train Emily to ride horses and the two of them had many adventures together.
Harriet loved spending hours with her great grandsons, Brady and Justin playing video games, reading with them and watching them swim and kayak. Although Harriet liked all sports including waterskiing, and Hockey (Taught to her by her father, Harry), her favorite was watching Notre Dame football. She loved amusement parks especially the rollercoasters and got to see lots of them in her later years as David would grab her wheelchair and off they would go to the next attraction. Martha, Roger and Harriet were inseparable after Justin’s death in 2008. She fought fiercely for her independence, but rarely complained. She was always interested in how other people were and wanted everyone to know that she loved them. Martha was by her side at the time of her death on September 4, 2023. Harriet will be forever loved and remembered.
There will be no formal service or calling at this point in time. A celebration of life will occur at a later date.
