Helen L. (Foltz) Veal

Helen LaVonne Veal, 86, passed away on Wednesday May 11, 2022, at 12:14 PM in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.

Helen was born on March 31, 1936, in Burket, IN, as the daughter of Don and Lola (Holloway) Foltz.

On June 12, 1953, in Akron, IN as Helen Foltz she married Robert “Lefty” Veal. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2011. Helen was also preceded in death by two of her children, her daughter, Kathy Matson on February 1, 2016, and her son Robert Veal on March 3, 2022. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.  She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Tom) Gean of Mishawaka; her son-in-law, Rich Matson; and six grandchildren, Kelly Grall, Jeremy (Nancy) Gean, Jodi (Chris) Spataro, Jenny (Chad) Kling, Christopher Matson, and Michael (Libby) Matson. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, with a 5th due in September. 

Helen was known as Mom, Grams, or Nana to those dear to her. She had a zest for life and a witty personality that will be deeply missed. Her fudge and cherry delight were legendary, causing many scuffles amongst her grandkids as they would race for that last little bit! Helen LOVED the Hallmark channel, especially any movie with “her” guy, Ryan. Helen and her husband, Bob, were amongst the original property owners at Jellystone Park in Pierceton, IN where they enjoyed camping for nearly 50 years.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 16th in Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with burial to follow in Fairview cemetery, Mishawaka.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
