Henry F. Gizewski passed away peacefully from earth on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 100 years old to join the love of his life in heaven, Audrey J. (Rhodes) Gizewski, wife of 76 years. Henry and Audrey were married on March 31, 1945, in South Bend, IN.
Henry was born on August 23, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Frances and Stanley Gizewski.
Surviving him are his daughter, Linda (Larry) Rodino; daughter-in-law, Tammy Gizewski; grandson, Ryan Gizewski (fiancé Janet Vermillion); granddaughter, Elaine (Ryan) Garton; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bortone.
Preceding him in death are his son, Terry Gizewski; brothers, Ted, Alex, and Michael; sisters, Helena, Jinny Kovalinski, & Bertha Audenaert.
Henry was quite the adventurist beginning at a young age. Before joining the U.S. Army to serve in WWII (1942-1943), he was the Indiana State Table Tennis champion, joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to fight forest fires in Oregon, and drove Studebakers to California.
Henry and Audrey enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout the United States making several trips to Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Hawaii, visiting casinos (both near and far) and taking several cruises to foreign ports. He was an avid golfer well into his 80s, ate a donut every morning for breakfast, and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the game of table tennis, giving them horsey rides on his back and playing in the sprinkler when they were young, and talking to them about Notre Dame football and Cubs baseball.
Henry retired from Inlander Steindler Paper Company in 1982. Then, along with family members, was a co-owner of Celebrations Unlimited banquet hall in Mishawaka, IN.
The family is very grateful to his caregivers, Nora and Lora, and the staff from Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka, for allowing him to stay in his home.
