Irene DeVliegher

  Irene R. DeVliegher, 92, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026.

  She was born on December 17, 1933, to Carl and Margaret (Deitchley) Tripple. Irene was the only daughter and grew up alongside her 5 brothers, Thomas, Edward William, Paul, and Raymond.

  Irene was a graduate of St. Joseph Elementary School, Mishawaka High School (Class of 1947), and St. Joseph Academy in South Bend (Class of 1951). On August 22, 1970, she married Cyril DeVliegher at St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka. They shared 54 years of marriage before his passing on December 17, 2024.Together, they were blessed with one son, Mark DeVliegher, who preceded them both in death on December 10, 2022.

  Before her retirement in 1998, she built a long and dedicated career as a secretary, working for the University of Notre Dame; Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, New Jersey; Commercial Mortgage Company in Newark, New Jersey; U.S. News & World Report in Washington, D.C.; Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana; the National Right to Life Committee Development Office in South Bend, Indiana; and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

  Irene was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka. Irene found great joy in gardening and oil painting.

  She is survived by her many nieces and nephews.  

  Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Cyril DeVliegher; her son, Mark DeVliegher; and her brothers and their wives, Thomas and Helen, Edward and Geraldine, William and Barbara, Paul and Phyllis, and Raymond and Dorothy.

  A visitation for Irene will be on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, in Hahn Funeral Home. A rosary will begin at 6:30, in the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Bural will take place the following day, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 220 W 4th St, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
