James Hahn Jr. Obituary

James “Jim” David Hahn, Junior, 65, of Granger, Indiana, died at home with his loving wife and family on December 8, 2025. Jim, never one to give up a fight, went down swinging after a battle with kidney cancer. Jim was born on July 25, 1960 to James Sr. and Sally (O’Rourke) Hahn of Wilmette, IL. Jim was the fifth of Jim Sr. and Sally’s seven children. His siblings include Susan (Johnson), Ann (Hahn Hansen), Pattie Hahn, Maureen (Madden), Maggie (Peshek), and Mark Hahn. Through these siblings, Jim Jr. has been blessed with 11 nieces and nephews and 10 grand nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Jim attended New Trier High School and then began his career in printing and manufacturing at Bowne, inc., eventually rising to the rank of Vice President of Operations for their plant in South Bend, IN.

Jim met the love of his life, Teresa (Girard) Hahn in 1978, and they married on September 6, 1986. Jim and Teresa were true soul mates, with those in attendance reminiscing, years later, that they were the happiest couple they had ever seen go down the aisle. Over the years, they shared many laughs and enjoyed spending time together doing any activity, even just sitting side-by-side on the couch watching TV.

Jim and Teresa welcomed four children into the world: Jon, Pat, Cassie, and Jillian. Each of their children share special memories with their dad, including camping with family friends, playing games, and just listening to Jim tell stories. Jim and Teresa always opened their home to the friends of their children. As a result, many saw Jim and Teresa as surrogate parents and therefore extended the already large Hahn family.

Jim and Teresa were thrilled to expand their family even further through the marriages of their children; Jon to his wife, Sarah (Sokol), Pat to his wife, Courtney (Couch), and Jillian to her husband, Tommy (Coonan). Jim got to experience the great joy of being a grandfather, something he truly loved. Jim became ‘Poppie’ with the birth of his first granddaughter, Sofia, daughter of Cassie. Jon and Sarah added to Poppie’s crew with the birth of Charlee, followed by their sons, Graham and Callum. All are in agreement that Jim was the greatest Poppie the kids could ask for. Jim was always willing to play chase, tickle monster, or draw with his grandbabies. He made sure they all felt loved and delighted in hearing the laughter and little feet pitter-pattering through the house.

Jim was an amiable presence, always striving to say hello and know the names of anyone he interacted with. He loved a fine cigar, time spent on the golf course, and watching Chicago sports. Most of all, he loved simply spending time with those he cared about. He was beloved by friends and always gave of his time and talents to any who needed assistance. Jim has left all who have known him better people and he will be dearly missed. In honor of Jim, the family asks that you pay it forward and do an act of kindness for someone today.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, December 13, from 9:30 – 10:30, in St. Pius X Church, 52553 N Fir Rd, Granger. A mass for Jim will take place at St. Pius X Church on Saturday, December 13, at 10:30 AM, in the church.
