Jennifer Bishop Obituary

Jennifer "Jeni" Lynn Bishop, 34 of South Bend passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 2 in Tinley Park, Illinois. Jeni was born on January 29, 1974 in Pittsburgh, PA to Alan and Pamela (Horvath) Van Huffel. Jeni married Brian K. Bishop on July 26, 1997 at St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Surviving Jeni are her loving husband Brian, and her three children, Jacob Olin 7, Jocelyn (Joci) Elizabeth 5, and Alan John (A. J.) 6 mo. She is also survived by her parents Alan and Pamela Van Huffel of South Bend; her sister, Michele (Steve) Talos of South Bend and niece, Morgan 12 and nephews Blake 15 and Mason 8; her brother Mark (Kimberly) Van Huffel of Indianapolis and nieces Courtney 8, Claudia 6, and Erin 3. Jennifer's in-laws, Jerry and Nancy Bishop of LaPorte, and her brother-in-law is Adam (Emily) Bishop and nephew Noah 3 of Aurora, CO. Jeni was a 1992 Marian High School graduate where she was known for her basketball and softball skills. She graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1996. She had been employed by Memorial Hospital since 1995, her most recent assignment in the ICU. Her fellow nurses describe her as a compassionate, caring, knowledgeable, and efficient nurse. She was most proud of her recent promotion to charge nurse and the added responsibility it brought. Jennifer was a loving, caring, wife, mother, sister, and daughter. She brought joy to her children and family. Her children were her life. They are bright, inquisitive, happy children due greatly to their wonderful mother. Jeni loved spending time at the family cottage on Birch Lake in Michigan and was there with her family most summer weekends. She also enjoyed vacationing with the Bishops at the Orlando attractions, escaping the February cold. Jeni often was involved with her children, nieces, and nephews at various school and athletic functions, helping out and cheering them on. Jeni will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We love you Jen! Visitation to celebrate Jeni's life will be on Thursday, February 7 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka from 2 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 8 in St. Matthew Cathedral, South Bend with Father Michael Heintz officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Bishop Children's Education Fund C/O First Source Bank.
