Joan Louise Shafer

Joan Louise Shafer, aged 89, of South Bend was a beacon of warmth and dedication to her community. Born on February 12, 1936, to Charles Shafer and Josephine (Pauwels) Shafer, Joan passed away peacefully on May 23,2025, in South Bend, Indiana.

Joan’s life was one of unwavering commitment to her family, friends and work. For over four decades, she demonstrated meticulous professionalism as an auditor for Randall’s Inn Hotel, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

A loving mother and grandmother, Joan is survived by her son  Erwin (Terri) Weise, grandchildren Joseph (Rachel) Weise, Julie (Heath) Lashmit, and five great grandchildren. Where her legacy of love and resilience will be carried on.

Joan was one of two remaining siblings (Betty Lubelski).  She was preceded in death by Bernice Peters, Sharon Shafer, Patricia Holland, Leroy Shafer, treasured foster daughter Cheryl Gridley and her parents.

A visitation for Joan will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 11:00am-1:00pm, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN.  The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm, also in the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.
