Jody Black Obituary

     Jody Allen Black, 50, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at his home. He was born on August 22, 1975, in Portsmouth, Ohio to William and Sharon (Baker) Black. He was preceded in death by his parents.

     On May 18, 2002, he married the former Stephanie Dorbin in Mishawaka. Surviving are his wife, Stephanie; children, Chloe Black and Adam Black; his sisters, who he adopted as daughters, Courtney (Francis) Oduro and Sarah Black; sisters, Amy (Stephen) Karanja and Wendy (Floyd) Staten; and brothers, Jamie and Joshua Black. Jody is also survived by his nieces and nephews Brandon, Ashley, Summer, Alex, Abby, Noah, Jazmine, Payton, Joe, Chandler, Allison, and Lucas as well as his in-laws, Steve, Sue, and Jennifer. Also surviving is his special Aunt Patty and Uncle John Grubb.

     Jody worked at AM General on the assembly line for many years. He dedicated his life to being a father figure and was the heart and soul of the family. He loved making everyone laugh. He was also known as the family peacemaker and the one everyone went to for advice. Jody enjoyed cooking for his family and seeing the smiles on their faces when they tasted his amazing creations. He was an avid gamer who loved playing with his son and nephews as well as making friends from all over the country. He was also a movie buff, science fiction fan (especially Star Trek) and truly loved his pets. Jody was a huge Ohio State Fan and enjoyed watching their football games each Saturday.

     Visitation will be on Friday, September 26 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. with a Memorial service at 7:30 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. As Jody was known for the love he spread to everyone around him (as well as his love of Ohio State), please join the family in wearing red or something Ohio State if you would like.

     In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made for the family at Taper Lock Credit Union, 1816 N Main St, Mishawaka, IN 46545 (574-255-3193) in Stephanie Black’s name.
