John Grudzinski Obituary

Mishawaka – John (Grud) Martin Grudzinski, 71, passed away in his home on Sunday, March 2nd. He was born on October 6, 1953, to Alex Sr. and June Lois Grudzinski. John graduated from Mishawaka High School with the class of 1971. On July 16, 1993, he married Marlene (Miller) Scott.

Surviving is his wife Marlene Grudzinski, his two stepsons, Nathan (Lori) Scott of Mishawaka and Jeremy Scott of South Bend; his brother, Alex Grudzinski Jr. of Mishawaka; his sister, Bridgette (Danny) McKay of Elkhart; four grandchildren: Brandon Scott of Mishawaka, Zoie Scott of LaPaz, Adriana Scott of Mishawaka, and Brody Scott of Mishawaka; as well as five nieces: Margo Hobkirk of Indianapolis, Alicia (Val) Head of Granger, Jessica Eller of Mishawaka, Melissa McKay of Cassopolis, and Emily McKay of Mishawaka.

John worked at the University of Notre Dame Power Plant for 38 years (1977-2015) as a Class A Mechanic/Boiler Operator. He was passionate about football, especially the Seattle Seahawks, and always had a countdown to the start of the season. John enjoyed visiting his friends at Rainbow/RBI’s in Mishawaka, where he could always be counted on for a good conversation filled with "man stories." Over the years, he participated in several leagues, including pool, darts, bowling, and golf.

John loved the summer months, spending time camping and fishing at Foxwood Hills/Cass Lake in Middlebury. He often humorously tolerated his wife’s outrageous campfires, jokingly saying, “Dear, don’t you think you have enough wood?” He enjoyed swimming, wading, and trolling the lake on hot days, but nothing made him smile more than spending time with his grandchildren.

A hard worker with a big heart, John was always ready to lend a hand and had a unique talent for solving problems. Though he could be rough around the edges at times, those who knew him best appreciated his caring nature.

There will be no visitation at this time. Hahn Funeral Home is handling John’s cremation. A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2025.
