John Long Obituary

John C. Long, formally of Mishawaka Indiana, 84, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in his home, in Greenville South Carolina. John was born November 30, 1939, to the late Mitchell C. Long and Elsie DeWulf in Mishawaka, Indiana.

John was a man whose life was a tapestry of remarkable achievements and interesting adventures. Beside him every step of the way was his beloved wife, Judy. On August 5, 1977, John married Judith Coppens in Mishawaka, Indiana, at First Presbyterian church. Together they embraced life’s journey, exploring the world through vacations and adventures. Their shared love for dance, particularly the shag, brought them joy and connection, filling their lives with music and love. Whether gliding across a dance floor or swaying under the stars, John and Judy found solace and happiness in each other’s arms.

John graduated from Mishawaka Highschool in 1958, and then attended IUSB for 2 years. John served his country with distinction as a Marine, rising through the ranks, till he became a Sergeant.

As a 32nd degree Mason, John exemplified the values of brotherhood, integrity, and service. His commitment to these principles enriched the lives of those around him and left an indelible mark on his community. Johns’ leadership extended beyond the military and masonry, he served as president of Inglewood Homeowners Association several times, working tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for his neighbors and friends.

He served in various positions with the former Dodge Reliance Corporation and retired in 2002 as Project manager with Tindall Corporation. John moved to South Carolina in 1977, where he lived for the rest of his life. One of Johns greatest passions after retirement was his love for Africa and its Wildlife. He embarked on numerous safaris to Botswana and Zimbabwe, capturing the beauty of the continent through his lens. His talent behind the camera earned him several photography awards.
