John Weber Obituary

John joyously met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024. John was born in Mishawaka on May 14, 1940, to Philip and Zelpha Weber.  He graduated from Butler University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree and obtained his master’s in education from Ball State. He taught in both South Bend and Mishawaka schools, and coached basketball.

John is survived by his son, Douglas Weber (Monica) of Mishawaka, daughter, Angela Kirkwood of Chicago and their mother, Ruth Easterling of Las Vegas, sister Marilyn Wilson of South Bend, and sisters-in-law Linda Weber and Joanne Weber of Mishawaka. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christian and Grant Weber, and Stephen, Jonathan, and Benjamin Kirkwood, along with dozens of favorite nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his siblings Phyllis Barrett, Irma Fox, Donna Freeze, Donald Weber, all of Mishawaka, Margaret Struss of Chicago, and brothers-in-law Owen Barrett, Robert Fox, and Thomas Freeze.

John’s passion was fishing, and he spent many hours on his boat with his father or his good friend Ralph, catching crappie and bluegill to share with family.  He was a great storyteller with a quick sense of humor.  John was also a dedicated friend to a devoted group of people. When he met someone who was struggling, he went out of his way to assist them, often housing them in one of his many rental homes around Mishawaka.  After his retirement, he enjoyed reading and watching sports on television. He also loved gardening and would proudly show off the newest additions to his beautifully landscaped yard.  John loved Jesus more than anything else, and it was his faith that sustained him through years of chronic health challenges.
