John L West

John L. West, 92, of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2021.  John was born on March 31, 1928, in West Point, Mississippi to the late Omar V. and Ola D. (Wells) West.  In 1962 he married Sara Jane Mathais of Mishawaka IN, who preceded him in death. John was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. John is survived by his stepchildren, Shann Souders and Brinn Spencer as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

John served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps, Army Reserves, and saw active duty in the Korean conflict. In 1955, he moved to Mishawaka from Mississippi and worked at Ball Band until he retired. He was a member of the Local VFW Post 360 in Mishawaka and the Masonic Lodge. John was a loving and caring man who enjoyed visiting with others and spending time with his family and friends.

Military Honors for John will be rendered at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka. Due to current public health and safety standards for COVID-19, social distancing will be enforced and masks are required. For those who are unable to attend, a recording of the Military Honors will also be available to view on John’s obituary page on the Hahn Funeral Home website.
