It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Justin Joseph Kovatch, who left this world far too soon. Justin was born on February 28, 1999, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to his loving parents Joseph Kovatch and Diedré (Stout) Kovatch.
Justin worked at Martin’s Supermarket, as a bagger and cashier. His kindness, patience, and warm smile were appreciated by coworkers and customers alike.
He is survived by his parents; his grandparents Edward (Beth) Kovatch and Anna (Eugene Preston) Hufkens-Stout; and his brothers David and Alex Kovatch. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles Andrew Kovatch, Peter (Tiffany) Stout, Eric (Emily) Stout, and Sarah Kovatch, along with many beloved cousins, extended family members, and friends. Justin was preceded in death by his grandfather David Anthony Stout and his uncle James Stout.
Justin lived a life filled with compassion, joy, and curiosity. He was active in several volunteer organizations, including the Schmucker Young Adults Program, a blind support group, and the Boy Scouts. He had a passion for ballroom dance and a deep love for Spider-Man, Star Wars, and sports—especially Notre Dame, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Indianapolis Colts. He had a strong faith in Catholicism and a devoted love for Christ.
He treasured spending time outdoors, particularly fishing with his Paw Paw and helping his MeeMaw with her yard. Justin also enjoyed camping in the outdoors with his dad and Grandpa while attending Boy Scout events and watching cartoons, especially SpongeBob, with his grandma when he was a kid. He also loved video games, chess, and card games. Justin also adored his pets and found comfort and companionship in their presence. He would have coffee and visit with his mother every morning and was her constant companion, best bud and confidant.
Those who knew Justin will remember his gentle spirit, his enthusiasm for the things he loved, and the joy he brought to every life he touched.
A visitation for Justin will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in Hahn Funeral Home, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will take place on November 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Rd, Mishawaka, with a visitation one hour prior in the church.
Donations in Justin’s memory are encouraged to be made to his family to help cover funeral expenses.
