Kathryn Towne

Kathryn Towne passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the admirable age of 90 in South Bend, Indiana. Born to Lawrence and Phoebe Janee (Anderson) Swartz on November 13, 1934, in Soldier, Kansas, she embodied a spirit of dedication that shaped her as an army nurse, where she honorably achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Kathryn's legacy is cherished by her devoted daughter Phoebe (Baird), Ritter, her son Mark Kevin (Mary) Pfeiler, her five beloved grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, who will continue to walk in the light of her love and strength.

Preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Alberta, Patricia Swartz, and Lawrence Swartz Jr., Kathryn's memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew her best. Her life stands as an enduring tribute to her compassion, commitment, and the enduring bond of family.

There will be no local formal services held. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Kathryn’s hometown of Soldier, Kansas, at Soldier Cemetery, Ks-62, Soldier, KS 66540. Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle the final arrangements.
