Linda (Hocking) Hamper, 70, formerly of Alsip, IL, passed away January 1 at Morningview Assisted Living in South Bend.
Linda was born July 8, 1955 in Salmon, Idaho to Rose (Benjamin) and the late Thomas Hocking, and spent her childhood in Colona, IL. She studied at the Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing, beginning a career that spanned over four decades. Linda was a compassionate and dedicated nurse, particularly for her dialysis patients.
Linda loved reading and gardening, especially her roses, and baking her family’s favorite cookies and chocolate pie. Her grandchildren brought her particular joy in her later years, whether joining in adventures to Disney World or spending an afternoon playing with her cats.
She is survived by her mother and three siblings, Doug Hocking (Julie), Phyllis Kaufman (Ron), and Carl Hocking (Robin), three children, Randall (Rowenna), Barbara Fritts (Jim), and Edward, and her four grandchildren, Tommy and Graysen Fritts and Eleanor and Marjorie Hamper, as well as nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Coalbush United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, with a visitation one hour prior. Memorial donations may be made to the American Nurses Foundation. Hahn Funeral Home Mishawaka entrusted with arrangements.
