Linda J. Verleye of Mason, OH passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH.
Linda was born on October 9, 1946 in Mishawaka, IN as the daughter of the late George N. and Marie (Williams) Vernasco. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, George E. Vernasco and her husband, Gary Verleye.
High school sweethearts, Linda and Gary were married on June 11th, 1966 in Mishawaka. After graduating from Notre Dame in 1968, Gary’s career as an accountant then took them to Cincinnati, OH. They called the Queen City home for the remainder of their lives with the exception of an 18-month stint in Germany where Gary served in the US Army. Finally, in 1991, on the doorstep of their 25th wedding anniversary, Linda gave birth to their son Michael at 44 years old.
Linda kept a deep circle of friends, maintaining close relationships with those both near and far over decades. She was an incredibly active individual, whether it was club tennis or helping at Gary’s office in her younger days, or serving as president of her neighborhood HOA or volunteering at Michael’s school in later years.
After Gary’s death in 2012, Linda continued to run his small accounting practice and serve clients throughout the Greater Cincinnati area right up until her passing. Also a breast cancer survivor, there was seldom anything that could slow her down or stop her from living life her way. Linda experienced the joy of becoming a Nona in the last few years and battled back from leukemia long enough to enjoy one last Christmas with her family.
Linda is survived by her son Michael and daughter-in-law Kaylee, and her granddaughters Ella and Sophie.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm with prayer service to follow at Hahn Funeral home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Celebration of Life will be held in Cincinnati at a later date this summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Linda can be made to Blood Cancer United, formerly the American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
