Margery Ann (Heiser) VerVaet, 94 years old, of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Brickyard Fountainview Extended Care Facility. She was born on May 21,1931, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late William and Gertrude (Bayes) Heiser. A lifetime resident of Mishawaka, Margery graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1949. She began work after high school at Security and Loan Company, Mishawaka, and later worked at St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, retiring in 1987 after 20 years of service and being recognized as Employee of the Year.
On September 15, 1951, Margery married the love of her life, William VerVaet, Jr., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Together they had four wonderful children and enjoyed their retirement years vacationing in New Smyrna Beach & St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. Margery was a long-time parishioner of St. Bavo Catholic Church prior to joining and becoming a parishioner at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Margery was a member of the BK Club, the Mishawaka Ladies' FOP Auxiliary Club, and the Mishawaka High School Alumni Club. Margery was happiest spending quality time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She treasured her dear friends Margaret Christ, Karen Dermody, Father Ed Ruetz, Victoria Franzel, and St. Anthony de Padua Homebound Communion Ministry. She enjoyed many years attending Bible Fellowship at Trinity Evangelical Church with the ladies she met there. But she most enjoyed a quiet evening at home with her Bill, watching Turner Movie Classics, reading a good Harlequin romance novel, working crossword puzzles, or listening to Engelbert Humperdink over a cup of tea.
Margery was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Margaret (Ariel) Hoegee, Josephine (Patrick) Burkett, Catherine (Tony) Redman, William (Helen) Heiser, Jr., Betty (Bob) Nagle, and Frederick (Ruth) Heiser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William, in 2004. She is survived by her children: Pamela (Frank) Serge, Vandalia, MI; Trudy (Michael) Ackard, Greer, S.C.; Keith (Joan) VerVaet, Peninsula, OH; and Brian (Maureen) VerVaet, South Bend; 10 grandchildren: Frank (Laura) Serge, Nicole (Michael) Nemes, Katie (Melvin) Taylor, Ryne (Lauren) Ackard, Keely (Bryan) Isbell, Brandon (Megan Smith) VerVaet, Nicholas VerVaet, Maggie (Cody) Conley, Brian (Cassie) VerVaet, and Bridget VerVaet; and 13 great grandchildren: Jackson and Lia Serge, Mia Nemes, Josephine and Sophia Taylor, Preston Ackard, Ameila, Joseph, and Ellie Isbell, Dawson and Wyatt VerVaet and Katalina Smith, and Charlie Conley.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kevin Ericson, M.D., Dr. Thomas Sweeney, D.O., and the wonderful staff of Caring Cove Hospice, the amazing staff of Brickyard Fountainview Extended Care Facility, and Victoria Franzel for their compassion and care given to Margery.
