Marilyn Sue (Rutherford) Jones, 93, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2025. Marilyn Sue was born in Kokomo, IN on June 20, 1931 to the late Albert S. and Dora (Warriner) Rutherford. Marilyn Sue is also preceded in death by her son, Jeffery S. Jones; husband, Jack H. Jones; sister, Betty Alice (Rutherford) Kuntz; and grandparents, Ira H. and Iddie (Fleenor) Rutherford and John and Margaret A. (Weston) Warriner. Marilyn Sue is survived by her daughter, Nanette (Scott) Pollock; grandson, Nathan Mittleman; step-grandson, Henry (Hillary) Pollock; step great-grand daughters, Gwynn E. and Annabelle S. Pollock; and her cat, Tomas.
Following graduation from Kokomo High School in 1949, Marilyn Sue attended Indiana University Bloomington, where she received her bachelor's degree. On August 14, 1955, Marilyn Sue married Jack H. Jones at Grace United Methodist Church in Kokomo, IN. They initially settled in Mishawaka where she began her teaching career for the city's public school system. She furthered her education at Indiana University South Bend, attaining a Master of Science in Education in 1970. Marilyn Sue concluded her career with the South Bend Community School Corporation after having taught for 29.5 years.
Marilyn Sue was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Schuyler Colfax Chapter, Grace United Methodist Women, and P.E.O. She was also a member of Tri Kappa, Eastern Star - Lakeville Chapter No. 479, Amaranth - Daylight Court No. 31, and was a past Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem - Messiah Shrine No. 10.
Marilyn Sue cared deeply for others and valued companionship. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, frequently attending their events and activities. Marilyn Sue was also an IU basketball fan. She and Jack held season tickets during the Bob Knight era. Marilyn Sue adorned her home with family memorabilia and cherished keepsakes, particularly angels, roses, and more recently, ladybugs. Her proudest achievement was celebrating 65 years of marriage before her husband's passing in 2020.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka. Funeral service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 11:00am with an hour visitation prior to service. Marilyn Sue will be laid to rest in Albright Cemetery in Kokomo, IN. A graveside service will begin at 2:00pm.
