Mary Taelman, lovingly known and cherished by her family, was born on August 22, 1929, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Basil and Gabriella Lema. She peacefully passed away on February 23, 2026, at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength.
Mary graduated from high school in 1947, and the following year married the love of her life, Eugene Taelman, at St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Together, Mary and Eugene shared 29 beautiful years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, family, and deep commitment until Eugene’s passing in 1976.
Mary was a dedicated and hardworking woman who spent 16 years working in medical records at the South Bend Clinic before retiring. She took pride in her work and was known for her reliability, kindness, and gentle spirit.
Above all, Mary’s greatest joy was her family. Her children, Kathleen (Dan) Wilson, Michael (Camille) Taelman, and John Taelman, cherish her memory. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Adam Farrar (Shauna), Sarah Lovisa (Thomas), Joel Taelman, Lindsay Nickel, Lauren (Justin) Crews, Jeff (Alexandra) Taelman, and Danielle (Drew) Finch. Her heart was especially full with the arrival of her ten great-grandchildren—Hannah, Gianna, Lilian, Emma, Hailey, Hunter, Wyatt, Colt, Cooper, and August—each of whom brought her immense happiness and purpose.
Mary is also survived by her beloved sister, Alice King, along with many extended family members and friends who were touched by her kindness, grace, and gentle spirit. She will especially be remembered for her warm, smiling face — a simple expression that reflected the joy and love she carried in her heart and shared so freely with everyone around her.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes a cremation is set to take place and no formal services will be held at this time . Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements and extends their deepest sympathies to the Taelman family.
