Mary Ann "Joan" Nichols

Mary Ann “Joan” Nichols, 89, peacefully passed away at home on Monday, August 12, 2024.

            Joan was born on March 26, 1935, in South Bend as the daughter of Edmund Szewczyk and Mary (Piechocki) Lafferty. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Delphine Rogers and Dianne Schneider, a brother, Donald Harley, her sister-in-law Barbara, and son-in-law, Steve Klatt.

            On February 27, 1954, she married Millard “Nick” Nichols. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2000.

            Surviving are her children, Pamela (Leonard) Sailor, Kim Klatt, Perry (Ann) Nichols and Robert (Susan) Nichols; grandchildren, Andy Klatt, Amy Klatt, Rachel Wright, Katy Shepherd and Megan Horvath; great grandchildren, Lauren Bell, Melody Klatt, Perry Shepherd and Selah Wright; her siblings, Linda (Stan) Delagrange, Richard Harley and Michael Harley along with many nieces and nephews.

            Joan was a Secretary for School City Mishawaka for many years before she retired. Joan was also an active member in the East United Methodist Church Community.

            Visitation will be on Friday August 16, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

The family would like to thank Kevine and Sarah, and Darcy and Crystal for the loving care that they provided to Joan.
