Matthew Dennis Lee Mazurkiewicz

Matthew Dennis Lee Mazurkiewicz, 75, of South Bend passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023. Dennis was born in South Bend on October 5, 1947, to Matthew and Eugenia (Slisz) Mazurkiewicz. He is survived by his father, Matthew; brothers James and Joe (Chris); nephews, Jason and Rocky Mazurkiewicz; nieces, Tara (Godchild) and Kristen Mazurkiewicz; step-nieces, Katrin (Aleksei) Koutasseritch, Shannon (Josh) Dapkus, and Steffie (Troy) Reed and aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eugenia; brother, Mike; grandparents, Matthew and Ruth Mazurkiewicz and Clem and Gertrude Slisz; and nephew, Montana Mazurkiewicz.

Dennis went to Mishawaka High School and graduated in 1966. He then attended Purdue for Pharmacy and graduated in 1971. While working at LaPorte Hospital in 1986, Dennis saved a 3 year old boy’s life who had drowned at Stone Lake. A news story was printed about him in the LaPorte Herald Argus paper. He earned the Merck Sharp and Dohme Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Profession of Pharmacy. He also went on to work at Oaklawn.

In his free time, Dennis was a Notre Dame football fan and loved getting together with the guys on holidays. He was in the bowling league at the PNA Club with his dad, brother, and uncle for Matt’s Construction. He enjoyed playing poker at Four Winds Casino and won tournaments.

Dennis was a loving son, brother, and friend, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
