Milton “Milt” Lee Ross, 90, passed away on February 3 at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend.
Milt will be lovingly remembered by his brother Rod and his wife Shelvy of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, his daughters Diane (Don) Kane of Hinsdale, Illinois, Lisa (Steve) Britt of Lodi, Wisconsin, Janice (Kerry) Murphy of Syracuse, Indiana, Nancy (Ron McCandless) Colburn of Loudon, Tennessee. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Ross and Greg Hammer, Kate Fiorenza, Carly Grimes, Whitney Brown, Don, Charlie, and Steve Kane, Max, Alison, and Andrea Colburn and his 13 great-grandchildren. Milt was preceded in death by his wife, Jo, his brother, Stan, and his parents, Al and Dolly Ross.
Milt was born in Mishawaka and was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He earned his teaching degree from Ball State University where he continued his love of sports and was an outstanding athlete as a member of the basketball and track teams. He was very active in the Theta Chi fraternity. It was at Ball State that he met the love of his life, Jo, and they were married on June 14, 1955 in Fort Wayne. Milt was a veteran of the Armed Forces, stationed in Hawaii.
Milt began his teaching career in California and returned to Mishawaka High School where he was a well-respected Wood Shop teacher and coached track for many years. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and loved visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, antiquing, making jewelry, woodworking, spending time in his basement workroom, his meticulous yard, and breakfast with the gang at the OC Café. He made countless repairs on anything to perfection for anyone.
For the last eight years of his life, Milt was a resident of Healthwin, where he was lovingly cared for by the outstanding staff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Queen of Peace Church, 4508 Vistula Rd, Mishawaka, IN with visitation 1 hour prior in the church. Milton will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
