Myra K. Nash of Buena Vista, Georgia, formerly of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on February 14th, 2025, at the age of 99.
Born on November 19th, in Chattahoochee County Georgia, she was the proud first child of Elmer Carlton and Carrie Marie (Sizemore) Kemp. On April 7, 1945, she married the love of her life, Joseph Henry Nash. They shared 72 wonderful years together, raising kids, running businesses, practicing their Catholic faith, entertaining family and friends, engaging in charitable and social matters, but most importantly, doing everything together.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Joseph H. Nash, her daughter, Myra Jo Stewart, her son, Michael H. Nash, her parents, Elmer and Carrie Kemp, her sister, Sara Frances Carroll, and her grandson, Stewart Paxton Nash.
Myra is survived by her children, Patrick Joseph (Cindi) Nash of Mishawaka, Jeffery John (Teena) Nash of Hartland, WI, Melinda Jill DesLauriers of Buena Vista, GA. James William (Karen) Nash of Winter Haven, FL, and Joseph Carlton Nash of Mishawaka, IN. She was a proud and loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Myra met Joseph while he was stationed at Fort Benning during Officer Candidate School. After his time in the military was completed, the couple settled in the Michiana area, where they built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. While Myra was a loving support to Joseph in his work with the Vogue School of Beauty Culture, she also pursued her own entrepreneurial passions, selling Doncaster clothing and Vivienne Woodard Cosmetics for many years.
A gracious hostess and a talented cook, Myra was known for her exquisite skill in selecting delicious recipes and creating memorable meals for her loved ones. She was a lifelong reader, always eager to get lost in a good book. Myra was a member of Morris Park Country Club and volunteered with the Christ Child Society of South Bend. Myra was the founder of "the Little Joe Club," a group of friends who gathered together for many years after the birth of "Little Joe" Nash. The "little Joe Club" ventured to many places on bus trips, parties and to Notre Dame games. She was a proud Georgia girl, until it came to Notre Dame football, where her tailgate parties were legendary. She was a Kennedy Democrat and worked for Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign but spent her final years in a Trump hat. Go figure.
