Norbert Ivo Rethlake

     Norbert Ivo Rethlake, age 93, a resident of Mishawaka, IN, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025. Born on October 11, 1931, to Joseph and Gladys (Foeckler) Rethlake, Norbert's life was one marked by dedication to God, his family, his country, and his work. 

     Norbert's formative years in Roseland and Lakeville laid the foundation for a life well-lived. He married his beloved wife, Mary Lou (Hanley) Rethlake, on August 9, 1952, enjoying fifty golden years of marriage until her passing on October 1, 2002. Together, they lovingly raised two children, Stephen Rethlake and daughter Terri Rethlake. His life was further enriched by his many nieces and nephews, and his extended family will fondly remember his gentle spirit and guiding presence. 

     He proudly served in the Army as an armored tank driver during the Korean War and attained the rank of corporal. A real testament to his tenacity and discipline. After his years of military service, Norbert embarked on a fulfilling career as an engineering lab technician with the Dodge Reliance Corporation, where he dedicated 37 ½ years before retiring. 

     Norbert was actively involved in numerous associations: he was a consistent presence at St. Bavo Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was a member of BK club, Lions club, Dodge Quarter Century club.  His generous spirit touched many, and his contributions to these community pillars left a lasting impact. 

     Norbert's life will be remembered as one brimming with love, service, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear, especially his Sunday and Tuesday breakfast friends and Band of Brothers.  His legacy will continue to inspire those who were privileged to know him. 

     Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th St. A Rosary will take place at 1:45 PM. On Monday, February 24, 2025, a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W 7th St. Mishawka, at 10 am, with a visitation one hour prior in Hahn Funeral Home. 

     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Bavo Church and Caring Cove Hospice.
