Pam Van Huffel Obituary

Pam Van Huffel passed away Friday, July 19, 2019, with her loving family by her side.  Pam was born on June 11, 1946, in South Bend to Steve and Irene Horvath.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Jennifer Bishop.  Surviving are her husband, Alan, daughter Michele (Steve) Talos of South Bend, and son Mark (Kim) Van Huffel of Dublin, OH; 9 grandchildren, Blake Talos, Ruston, LA, Morgan Talos, Cincinnati, OH, Mason Talos, South Bend, Courtney, Claudia, and Erin Van Huffel all of Dublin, OH, and Jacob, Joci, and AJ Bishop all of South Bend; 2 sisters, Suellen (Richard) Webster of Indianapolis, and Jacquelyn (William) Fulkenburg of New York; and a niece Andrea DeGeeter of Osceola.

Pam graduated from St. Joseph High School, earned a BA in Education at Purdue University, and her Masters of Education at Indiana University South Bend.  She married Alan Van Huffel on January 27, 1968.  Pam taught 3rd and 4th grade at St. Matthew Cathedral Grade School for 25 years, where her fondest memories were her students, starting Young Vincentians with the intention of growing the spirit of stewardship in her students through experiencing the needs of the poor and the joy of giving and sharing, and creating and directing the annual Christmas Pageant.  Both programs continue today.  Pam loved the Lord and had a special way of sharing her faith with family, friends and students.  She was a special light of Christ to many of us through our toughest times, as well as her toughest times, and that light will continue on in us and be passed on in this life as she has left us and gone to be with our Lord.  “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:23).
