Ralph Gregory Heckaman, 71, passed away peacefully with family by his side on July 15, 2024. Ralph was born to James and Phyllis Heckaman on May 8, 1953, in Mishawaka, IN where he remained a lifelong resident and had two daughters, Hillary and Sara. He had four siblings, Sherry (Bob) Harke, Chris (Perry) Scripter, Jaqui Siciliano and Josette (Bob) Shannon.
Ralph graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1972. In 1971, he took part in the popular television series at the time, “Beyond Our Control.” He was nicknamed Spider by his friends who he shared countless memories with, including those made in the “Joyous Cemetery”. Ralph worked for Monaco Coach in Wakarusa, IN for many years as a welder and in research and development. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sherry, his dearest friend, Chuck Strantz, and his loving partner, Lorina Strombeck.
Overcoming numerous battles with cancer led Ralph to his passion for Relay for Life, where he was an avid volunteer. Ralph brought joy to those around him with his humor and zest for life. He loved riding Harleys, wearing his Converse, and supporting Mishawaka High School athletics. Other hobbies Ralph enjoyed included photography, gardening, playing harmonica, and cheering on Notre Dame and the Kansas City Chiefs. Above all else, Ralph was a faithful servant to God. For years you could find him greeting visitors on Sunday mornings at The Vineyard Church.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Hillary Heckaman and Sara (Lucas) Howard, as well as his seven grandchildren; Cora, Loudon, Aisley, Harland, Adler, Eamon, and Elgin. Ralph will be lovingly remembered by his family, his friends, and all those that loved him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 22 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in Hahn’s Funeral Home, 505 W 8th St. Mishawaka, IN. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on July 23 with visitation an hour before the service at Hahn’s.
