Randall Freed Obituary

Randall Lee Freed, born October 26, 1948, in Mishawaka, Indiana to William George Freed and Genevive (Doll) Freed, passed away on December 13, 2025.

Randy graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1966. From a young age he took care of his family, working at Ballard Funeral Home throughout his high school years. Randy proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army in the Vietnam War in 1968.  Throughout his life he worked as both a welder and a dam operator for AEP for 39 years, careers that reflected his strong work ethic, skill, and dedication.

On May 2, 1970, Randy married the love of his life, Paula Ann (Heftie). Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with a daughter, Jennifer Pierce and her husband Maxwell, and a cherished granddaughter, Orianna. Jennifer was definitely a “daddy’s girl”, and is the woman she is today thanks to him.  He shared his birthday, October 26th, with his son-in-law Max. They had a special bond, and were like two peas in a pod.

He is survived by: his beloved wife, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, his loving sister, Cindy (Ron) Buysse, and sister Rebecca Firth. As well as, a second “daughter” Jeannine (Jo) Everett.  Jeannine has been part of the family through the good, the bad, and the ugly.  She helped take care of him in his final days.  Life long friend Phil (Kathy) & son Tony Plaia; who are Jennifer’s God Family. Also, his “special angel” Theadora who has been a caregiver and became family.

Randy was a man who valued hard work  and loyalty. He loved spending time at the OC Café, where he made many lasting friendships. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the country going to  NHRA races,  and was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR racing, passions that he shared with his daughter and brought him excitement and camaraderie.

Randy will be remembered for his generosity, his kindness, his story telling, and the love he shared with all who knew him. He was a member of the First Brethren Church on Ironwood in South Bend, Indiana.
