Ray Evert Staples Sr., age 84, was born on August 5, 1941, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, to the late Noah Staples and Verda (Jackson) Staples. Ray passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025.
Ray worked for many years as a machine operator and crane operator, known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication to providing for his family.
On August 12, 1961, Ray married Mary Lou Lagodney. They shared 61 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on July 28, 2022. Their life together was filled with love, dedication, and family. Ray was a devoted father to four children: Ray Evert Staples Jr., Shawn Patrick Staples, Mark Allen Staples, and Mary Lou Stevens.
Ray is survived by his children and their spouses: Mary Lou (Scott) Stevens, Ray (Robin) Staples, Shawn (Pam) Staples, and Mark (Vicki) Staples. He is remembered as a proud and loving grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Kelsey, Kameron (Stephanie), Tyler (Shauna), Mitchell Stevens, Hannah (Tyler), Kylie, and Peyton (Victoria). He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Chase, Hailey, Winter Rose, and Savannah.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Lou Staples; and several siblings: Eva Staples, Kathy Staples, Jewell Bennett, Margaret Kronewitter, Clinton Staples, Rondal Staples, Larry Staples, and Glen Staples.
He is survived by his siblings Carolyn Kozuch and Delores Bruning, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W 7th St, Mishawaka.
