Raymond Meek Obituary

Raymond Lewis Meek, 83, of South Bend, IN passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.  Ray was born in South Bend on December 3, 1938, to the late Alfred and Emily (Przybysz) Meek.  On September 18, 1965, he married the former Bettie Horvath who preceded him in death on September 13, 2000.  Ray is also preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Hack.  He is survived by his children, Pam (Dave) Pyburn, Mark (Liezel) Meek, Jeff (Tracie) Meek and Sheryl (Dave) Fountain; 9 grandchildren, David, Danielle, Aaron, Ryan, Gavin, Brandon, Jason, Christopher and Jeannie; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy “Jo” (Gary) Coats; and brother, Jim (Jackie) Meek.

Ray, also known as the best damn carpet man, owned and operated Meek Carpet Service and later Meek Carpet Center for over 40 years.  He was an avid bowler and member of the South Bend Bowling Association.   He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999 with many league championships under his belt.  He was most proud of his 298 and 300 game in 1990.  He then became an avid golfer.  He is on a list of only a small number of left-handed people to have bowled a 300 game and had a hole in one while golfing right handed at McCormick Creek that was witnessed by his grandson, David.  In his hay day he also enjoyed camping and fishing.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.  Ray will be interred in Riverview Cemetery.
